Recap: Virginia Tech vs. VA Commonwealth

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Melvin Johnson came off the bench to score 27 points for the Virginia Commonwealth Rams as they posted an 82-52 trouncing of the Virginia Tech Hokies during the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic at Richmond Coliseum.

Johnson had a stellar shooting performance for the Rams (10-3), connecting on 8-of-11 of his 3-point attempts. Juvonte Reddic had 10 points to go along with 11 rebounds and three steals.

The Hokies (7-4) were led by Ben Emelogu and Jarell Eddie who had 12 points apiece, but tallied seven and five turnovers, respectively.

The first half ended with the Rams on top 42-22, with Johnson accounting for 19 of VCU's points on his own. At one point the Hokies led 8-6, then Johnson got hot. He made five three-pointers during a demoralizing 31-0 run which brought the score to 37-8.

The Rams coasted in the second half, leading by no fewer than 15 points, while holding the Hokies to 37.5 percent shooting.

VCU had 22 steals and forced 27 turnovers in the win.
