Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Deville Smith scored 21 points, leading five players in double figures, as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels crushed the Santa Clara Broncos, 92-71, in the third round of the Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.
Roscoe Smith accounted for 15 points and seven rebounds for the Runnin' Rebels (7-4), followed by Khem Birch with 14 points and a team-best eight boards as the team posted a fourth straight win. Jelan Kendrick and Bryce Dejean-Jones chipped in 13 points apiece.
The Broncos (6-6) were paced by Jared Brownridge who tallied a game-high 22 points, shooting 6-of-15 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line, followed by Brandon Clark and Jerry Brown with 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the squad had a three-game win streak snapped.
UNLV shot an impressive 65.4 percent from the field in the first half, not to mention 5-of-6 beyond the arc, en route to a 47-38 advantage at the break. Deville Smith knocked down all four of his attempts on the perimeter for the local, beating the entire Santa Clara squad which made good on just 3-of-9 on the perimeter.
In the second half the Rebels dipped to just 2-of-8 on the outside and 56.7 percent from the floor overall, but still they were able to gain even more separation over a Broncos group which converted a total of only 10 field goals over the final 20 minutes of action.
With the win, UNLV will now take on Mississippi State in the championship round of the event on Monday.
