Suspected pipe bomb found near South Commons

December 31, 2013

A suspected pipe bomb was found on the Chattahoochee Riverwalk near South Commons early Tuesday, Columbus police said.

No one was injured when an officer on patrol found the device about 12:24 a.m.

The officer first thought the item was a flashlight until he stopped to retrieve the object. The officer then realized the item was a PVC pipe with and end cap and black taped wrapped tightly around one end.

The item was turned over to the Hazardous Device Response Team.

An investigation into the device continues.
