A thief snatched a money bag from the Walmart Supercenter in Opelika, Ala., on Thursday and fled with the cash, police said.

No one was injured in the theft at 2900 Pepperell Parkway just after midnight.

Police said a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt entered the store as the cashier was emptying a cash drawer and placing money into a bank bag. Claiming he wanted to check out, the man reached over the counter and grabbed the bag with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The thief fled on foot from the business.

Police said the theft remains under investigation.
