One man has been shot after threatening Phenix City officers this weekend with an apparent AK-47, police announced today.

At about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a domestic violence call at 1200 8th Avenue, where a woman was allegedly being chased around outside by her knife-wielding husband.

En route, officers were advised that a man was sitting on the home's porch with what "appeared to be an AK-47 style rifle." The man was threatening to fight with police, according to the release.

The responding officers instructed the man to put down his weapon. The man refused and pointed his rifle at police.

The man refused subsequent voice commands and responded "in an aggressive manner," according to the release. He was shot once by police and transported to Midtown Medical Center.

The man's name has not been released. His condition is unknown.

The officer who fired on the man has not been identified.

Phenix City police could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
