Auburn football: Reports of Trovon Reed moving to corner 'premature'

ROBIN TRIMARCHI Auburn receiver Trovon Reed, seen loosening up on the day before the SEC Championship game, said in an Instagram post on Thursday that he would move to cornerback next season. On Friday, coach Gus Malzahn said any reports of Reed changing positions were 'premature.'

AUBURN, Ala.Trovon Reed isn't shifting from receiver to cornerback.

Not yet, anyway.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn tapped the brakes on any suggestion of the senior-to-be moving to defense when asked about it Friday.

“That was premature," he said. "We have not talked about any of that. Once we get to our pre-spring meetings we’ll talk through things like that.” Reed himself brought up the potential move on Thursday.

"Will Be The Best CornerBack In The Nation 2014 Season!!” he said in a post on his personal Instagram account. The post has since been deleted.

Reed's addition would be a welcomed boost to Auburn's secondary, which is set set to lose three seniors from the secondary in Chris Davis, Ryan Smith and Ryan White. Further, Josh Holsey's status for the spring is uncertain as the safety continues to rehab from his ACL injury.

Reed, who hails from Thibodaux, La., caught nine passes for 98 years this season. He also returned one punt, losing four yards.
