Columbus Cottonmouths rally past Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Columbus Cottonmouths roared back from a three-goal deficit to edge the Knoxville IceBears 6-5 on Friday night.

The Snakles trailed 4-1 early in the second period before scoring three straight, all in in a 3:19 rush to tie the game.

After the IceBears took the lead back by the end of the period, the Snakes scored the only two goals of the final period for the win.

Jason Gray scored at the 16:30 mark to give the Snakes the 6-5 lead. Tony Allan scored at 7:57 of the final period to tie the game at 5.

Sam Bowles scored for the Cottonmouths in the first period. Preston Sharpe, Chris Bailer and Matt Gingera scored in the second period.

This was the first Columbus win over Knoxville and goalie Bryan Hince. They were 0-6 this season and 0-8 overall, including back-to-back playoff shutouts last season.

The Snakes play at Huntsville today at 8:30 p.m.
