Denton, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Stark netted 20 points for the Tulane Green Wave as they knocked off the North Texas Mean Green, 73-62, in a Conference USA tilt at the Super Pit.
Stark shot 6-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range for the Green Wave (9-8, 1-1 C-USA), who have won four of their last six games. Louis Dabney notched 19 points on 8-of-14 from the floor. Jay Hook added 10 points, although he shot just 1-of-9 from the floor on the afternoon.
T.J. Taylor scored 19 points to lead the Mean Green (9-7, 0-2), who have lost back-to-back games. Jordan Williams and Vertrail Vaughns contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Both teams knocked down just nine shots from the field in the opening half. Tulane hit an extra basket from beyond the arc to go up 27-24 at halftime.
In the second half, the Green Wave shot 46.7 percent from the floor, better than the Mean Green's 42.9 percent, which included just 1-of-7 from the perimeter. Tulane's free-throw shooting bolstered its offense, as it drained 16-of-18 at the stripe. The Green Wave led by as many 15 with just over three minutes left in regulation.
North Texas had three starters who failed to not only make a single field goal, but were also held scoreless, a fourth was limited to just five points.
