Recap: Butler vs. Georgetown

Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 18 points as the Georgetown Hoyas earned a 70-67 overtime victory over the Butler Bulldogs in a Big East conference thriller at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Markel Starks scored 15 points, including a 3-pointer that forced the extra session for Georgetown (11-4, 3-1 Big East), which has won four of its last five. Aaron Bowen added 11 points off the bench.

Kellen Dunham tallied a game-high 21 points, but made just 1-of-11 from beyond the arc for Butler (10-6, 0-4), which has lost four straight. Khyle Marshall tacked on 18 points, Andrew Chrabascz chipped in 14 and Kameron Woods brought in 10 rebounds but went 0-of-6 from the floor.

After shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and holding Butler to 37.5 percent shooting in the first half, Georgetown took a 34-29 lead into the break.

Alex Barlow nailed a 3-pointer and hit a pair of free-throws to cap a 19-6 run that pushed Butler ahead, 60-58, with 25 seconds left in the second half. Starks saved the Hoyas with a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play, as Woods could not get a last-second attempt to fall on the other end.

Starks scored the first four points in the extra session for the Hoyas and also split a pair of free-throws with three seconds remaining to give Georgetown a 70-67 lead. Dunham had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but his 3-point try was off the mark.

Butler connected on just 2-of-21 shots from 3-point range. Georgetown had a 44-26 scoring advantage in the paint.
