Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Cobbs led the way with 20 points and nine assists, as the California Golden Bears defeated the Oregon State Beavers, 88-83, in a Pac-12 Conference melee at Gill Coliseum.
For the Golden Bears (12-4, 3-0 Pac-12), Tyrone Wallace added 17 points, David Kravish finished with 16 points, Richard Solomon scored 15 and Jeff Powers chipped in with 14.
Roberto Nelson led the Beavers (9-7, 1-3) with 26 points and nine assists, while Angus Brandt scored 22 and Eric Moreland posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Oregon State was hot from the floor to start the contest, connecting on 63 percent of its field goals, knocking down 6-of-7 of its 3-point tries in the process, as the Beavers took a 45-35 lead into intermission. California shot 48.3 percent in the first half, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc.
After the break, the Golden Bears heated up, making 54.8 percent of their field goal attempts and 4-of-9 from 3-point distance. Conversely, the Beavers cooled off from the floor, shooting 37 percent in the second half. Trailing 61-60 midway through the second, the Golden Bears used a 12-0 run to take the lead for good.
California outscored Oregon State in the paint, 40-30, and outrebounded it, 36-33. The Golden Bears forced 13 turnovers and converted them into 14 points.
