Man struck by car dies

A 42-year-old man was struck by a car and killed Saturday night in Opelika, Ala.

At approximately 8:25 p.m. members of the Opelika Police Department and Opelika Fire Department responded to the area of Waverly Parkway and Priester Road in reference to a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, they found that Anthony Shane Hurst of Opelika had been struck by an SUV.

Hurst was immediately transported to East Alabama Medical Center where he succumbed to the injuries received in the crash. He was pronounced dead by emergency room physicians at 8:50 p.m.

According to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris, the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

He said a case will be be presented to the grand jury but no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor;.
