Columbus Lions announce rosters for 2014 indoor classic

From staff reportsJanuary 13, 2014

The Columbus Lions have announced the full rosters for the 2014 Alabama-Georgia High School Indoor Classic to be played Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Columbus Civic Center. Game time is 8 p.m.

The game is presented by WLTZ-NBC 38 and other sponsors.

Thirty-nine players were selected for the classic, which will feature two teams. Instead of having a Georgia vs. Alabama format, the teams will be split in a different manner.

"Team Red" will be made up of players from Muscogee County schools and

"Team Blue" will be populated by players from outside of Muscogee County, including participants from both Alabama and other counties in Georgia.

Rosters were selected by the Lions' coaching staff and aided by members of the local media. Coaches from the Bi-City and Chattahoochee Valley areas were sent forms to nominate players for the game.

The classic is part of a whole week dedicated to football-related activities, including an inaugural flag football tournament called the "Lions Bowl" and the final open tryout for the Lions' team on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Two players will be profiled on WLTZ First News Today each morning from Jan. 27 through Feb. 7 in the lead up to the game.

Tickets are $12.50 each (open seating), and the date sales will begin will be announced soon.

The classic has been on hiatus for the past two years, but Lions coach Jason Gibson decided to bring the competition back. The Georgia team has won all three of the previous contests.
