Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said that a 27-year-old man who was struck by a car in November has died.

Newton said that Mejia Sontay was pronounced dead at 7:59 p.m. Monday at Midtown Medical Center.

"The cause of death is blunt force trauma," Newton said.

At the time of the accident, a witness told police he passed Sontay at about 6:40 p.m. Sontay was reportedly standing on the sidewalk and looking for an opportunity to cross.

After the witness passed in his vehicle, Sontay attempted to run across Victory Drive, darting in front of a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado traveling north near Benning Drive.

When the driver collided with the man, it reportedly caused extensive damage to the Chevrolet and critical injuries to the pedestrian.

The speed of the driver was not available from the incident report.
