Police are investigating a 2-year-old boy's death after he was transported to the Midtown Medical Center Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Jacorey Jones was transported from his Morris Road home to the Midtown Medical Center at about 5 p.m., for unspecified reasons. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said Tuesday.

There were no apparent injuries to the child, Newton said.

Youth Services Lt. Warren Dunlap said investigators are handling the case carefully. He declined to say whether the death happened under suspicious circumstances.

"With this one we're making sure we cover all our bases," Dunlap said.

The body has been sent to Atlanta for autopsy. More information will be added as it becomes available.
