Kia parts supplier seeks 190 workers for West Point plant

Vehicle seat manufacturer expected to have $35 million facility ready this summer

Kia auto supplier Hyundai Dymos is looking to fill 190 positions for its new plant now under construction in West Point, Ga.

The Georgia Department of Labor said Wednesday it will help the company do so at a job fair scheduled Jan. 25 at West Point Technology Center, 1122 O.G. Skinner Drive.

The company, which will make automobile seats for Kia’s main assembly plant in West Point, is constructing a $35 million plant that is expected to be ready in July, with production launching in the fall. In September, the company said it hopes to employ about 350 people at full capacity.

The labor department said Hyundai Dymos needs assembly-line workers and team leaders, with applicants required to be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of one year experience in manufacturing.

Those attending the job fair should bring their résumé and expect to fill out an application that could lead to a future interview.

Hyundai Dymos was launched by South Korea-based Hyundai Motor Group in 1994. The company is expected to make seats for the Kia Sorento crossover utility vehicle, although the company also is known to make manual transmissions and axles at other plants it operates.

Aside from the Sorento, the Kia mother plant also makes the Kia Optima sedan and the Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility. It is now capable of assembling up to 360,000 vehicles each year.

The main plant, which opened in November 2009, employs about 3,000 workers, with roughly 11,000 auto-supplier jobs created in east Alabama and west Georgia to serve it various vehicle parts.
