Young Harris 68, Columbus State 63: Lady Cougars drop close game on the road

Young Harris, Ga. -- The Columbus State women's basketball team managed just two points in the final 2:02 and fell to Young Harris 68-63 on Wednesday night.

Chatil Bradford, who scored 13 points, hit a jumper with 2:02 left to tie the game at 61-61. It would be the Lady Cougars' final field goal as they went 0-for-3 for the rest of the game.

Young Harris took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Keta Robinette for a 64-61 lead with 45 seconds remaining. Lauren Smith added a pair of free throws 20 seconds later for a 5-point lead.

Asha Alexander, who was held to nine points, hit a pair of free throws for CSU (9-4, 4-3 Peach Belt Conference) at the 15-second mark. Smith increased the lead back to five, 68-63, with a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left.

The game was close throughout with 15 ties and six lead changes.

Tae Smith led CSU with 18 points. Carrie Washington pulled down 10 rebounds.

Young Harris (10-3, 5-1) was led by Ladondra Johnson with 18 points. Smith had 16.

CSU fell into a three-way tie with Georgia College and Clayton State in the Western Division. They are 1½ games behind Young Harris, which sits in second place. North Georgia leads at 6-0.

CSU hosts Armstrong Atlantic State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
