Flagstaff, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Northern Arizona has given head football coach Jerome Souers a four-year contract extension, the Big Sky Conference university announced Wednesday.

Souers has a 93-88 record in 16 seasons at NAU.

The Lumberjacks reached the FCS playoffs for the first time in 10 years this past season. They finished the season with a 9-3 record and the No. 15 national ranking.

"This extension is not only for me, but for my coaching staff," Souers said. "Northern Arizona University is a great school with a phenomenal athletic department. During the past few years, the NAU football program has shown stronger direction and commitment to excellence on and off the field. This extension allows our program to continue building the foundation in support of sustainable success. We want to play for a championship every season."

The contract is pending approval by the full Arizona Board of Regents next month.
