Man in critical condition after 2-car accident in Opelika

— Two men were injured, one critically, after their car collided with a tractor trailer Friday morning in Opelika, Ala., according to police.

Officers responded at about 11:25 a.m. to a reported accident on Gateway Drive in front of the Lee County Justice Center. During preliminary investigation , officers determined that a car had turned west onto Gateway Drive from Hamilton Drive, in front of tractor trailer that had been traveling east.

The collision temporarily blocked westbound lanes on Gateway Drive as well as the turn lane, police said.

The car's two male occupants were injured, police said: one is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at East Alabama Medical Center; the other is in critical condition at Midtown Medical Center.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
