A Fort Mitchell, Ala., man was killed Friday night after the SUV he was driving went out of control and hurled him from the vehicle, authorities said.

Francis Nelson Bowman Jr., 58, was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-vehicle accident at 10 p.m. EST, about an hour after the accident, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.

Bowman was not wearing a seat belt when the white SUV went out of control on the road also known as County Road 39. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
