Cottonmouths 5, FireAntz 3: Snakes win after big first period

From staff reportsJanuary 20, 2014

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Columbus Cottonmouths rode a big 4-0 lead in the first period over the Fayetteville FireAntz to a 5-3 win Monday.

Levi Lind scored the opening goal for the Snakes after just three minutes of play.

Jordan Draper and Neilsson Arcibal notched goals before Lind hit his second of the period.

Both teams went scoreless during the second period, but Fayetteville bit into the Cottonmouths' lead in the third by scoring three unanswered goals. One came on a power play, another was a short-handed goal.

The Snakes were able to prevent the FireAntz from completing the comeback, and a late goal on an empty net by Matt Gingera iced the game for the Cottonmouths.

Goalie Andrew Loewen saved 30 shots out of the total 33 on goal for Columbus.

The Cottonmouths will travel to Huntsville to face the Havoc Friday.
