Former Russell County standout Casey Rasmus will head to the St. Louis Cardinals' major-league camp as a non-roster invitee next month.

Rasmus, a catcher, is one of 18 players to receive such an invitation.

The Cardinals' pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Jupiter, Fla., on Feb. 12. The first workout is slated for the next day.

Rasmus played for three minor-league teams last season -- Peoria (Low-A), Palm Beach (High-A) and Springfield (Double-A). He batted .298 (48-of-161) with 21 runs scored and 20 RBIs in 52 games.

In three minor league seasons, Rasmus has batted .252.

He was drafted by the Cardinals in the 36th round of the 2011 MLB draft out of Lynch University.
