Ruston, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Hamilton scored a game-high 22 points as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs dropped the Charlotte 49ers, 80-60, in Conference USA action at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs (16-4, 4-1 C-USA) were Jaron Johnson and Chris Anderson with 12 points apiece, the latter clearing eight rebounds as the team posted an eighth win in nine attempts.
The 49ers (12-6, 3-2) were paced by Pierria Henry with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, while Willie Clayton and Shawn Lester pitched in with 10 points apiece. Clayton pulled down 10 rebounds, but he was also charged with six of the program's 24 turnovers.
Both squads knocked down 50 percent of their field goals in the first half, including a trio of 3-pointers, but thanks to a 7-of-8 showing at the free- throw line the Bulldogs were able to claim a 40-33 advantage at the break.
In the second half the hosts made good on a mere 1-of-9 beyond the arc, compared to 1-of-7 by Charlotte, but the 49ers also finished with just nine field goals in the period and a disappointing 8-of-16 showing at the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs cruised to the win despite starter Michael Kyser playing just 15 minutes and being ejected in the first half after being assessed a Flagrant 2 foul. The hosts were also missing leading scorer Raheem Appleby (16.1 ppg) who is still suffering with a sprained left ankle.
