Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Neil Watson scored a a career-high 28 points, shooting 6-of-7 from 3-point range, as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles defeated the Old Dominion Monarchs, 75-60, in a Conference USA tilt at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
Jarrold Brooks and Michael Craig each tallied double figures for the Golden Eagles (17-3, 4-1 C-USA) with 18 and 11 points respectively, the latter adding five assists. Daveon Boardingham brought down eight rebounds and blocked four shots as the team posted a third straight win.
Aaron Bacote led the Monarchs (9-10, 3-1) with 19 points, as they had a four-game winning streak snapped. Richard Ross accounted for 11 points and nine rebounds while Keenan Palmore chipped in 10 points.
Southern Miss made 41.4 percent of its shots from the field including 6-of-11 from 3-point range in the first period as they led 35-32 at the break. ODU connected on 47.8 percent of its field goal tries but attempted six fewer shots.
The Golden Eagles converted on 47.8 percent of their field goal attempts in the second frame and would pull away after Watson made a 3-pointer with 8:32 remaining. This put the visitors up 54-52 as they closed out the game on a 21-8 run.
USM had 11 steals and capitalized by scoring 32 points off of turnovers.
