Riverside, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alan Williams tallied 21 points as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos survived with a 68-65 victory in overtime against the UC Riverside Highlanders during a West Coast Conference clash at SRC Arena.
Mitch Brewe and Zalmico Harmon each netted 11 points for UCSB (12-5, 3-1 Big West), which has won six of its last seven. Kyle Boswell chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Chris Patton scored a game-high 23 points and Sam Finely tacked on 20 for UC Riverside (6-13, 1-4), which has lost five of its last six.
The Gauchos shot 50 percent from the floor, including a 5-of-10 showing from beyond the arc, in the first half. They led 33-22 at halftime by limiting the Highlanders to 38.5 percent shooting.
The Highlanders improved to 63.2 percent shooting in the second half to force overtime, with Taylor Johns connecting on a free-throw with five seconds left to tie the game at 60-60.
UCSB scored the first four points of the extra session and held on thanks to four points from Michael Bryson in the last 1:03.
UC Riverside lost despite a 34-31 edge on the boards. UCSB outscored the Highlanders 16-7 off of turnovers.
