Auburn police investigating man's fatal fall

— Police are investigating the death of one Auburn man after he fell to his death from a Magnolia Avenue parking deck Thursday afternoon, officials said Friday.

Officers responded at about 5:10 p.m. to to the North Park Public Parking Deck, at 712 W. Magnolia Avenue, where they found Barrett McCoy Townsend, 22, unresponsive in front of the parking deck's entrance.

The original call to police reported a possible jumper. There was no indication of foul play.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Townsend fell from the parking deck's upper level.

Townsend was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center but did not recover from his injuries; he was pronounced dead by the Lee County Coroner.

Townsend's body was transported to Montgomery for autopsy.

Auburn police are conducting a full investigation into the death. Anyone with information should call 334-501-3140.
