Saunders murder suspects waive Recorder's Court hearing

Two suspects accused of a 39-year-old Fort Mitchell man's murder were before a judge for about a minute before waiving their preliminary hearing Monday morning, according to a Columbus Police report.

Niesha Janae Jones, 17, and Mayson Gibson, 20, face murder, aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery charges. They were arrested in connection with Troy Saunders' fatal shooting, after Saunders was found dead in his car in front of the Gentian Boulevard Burger King, across from the Peach Tree Mall.

Saunders and a 21-year-old Phenix City man allegedly fled gunfire at the Warm Springs Road Super 8 Motel Friday after the suspects allegedly attempted to rob them. When police found him, he was about a quarter-mile away from the hotel. Saunders was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m.

The 21-year-old man was uninjured.

Judge Michael Cielinski set no bond on Jones and Gibson's murder charges. Bond was set at $50,000 each for their remaining charges.

Police are seeking two other suspects in connection with Saunders' murder. Trevon "Trey" Brown, 19, is described as a 6-foot-1 black man, who weighs about 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Christopher Wommack, 19, is described as a 5-foot-11 black man weigh weighs about 172 pounds.

Both should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with additional information should contact Investigative Services at 706-653-3400.
