The Columbus city manager's office has issued this update on city services operating Thursday:

"There will be no garbage collection on Thursday this week. Residents who receive pickup on Thursday will receive garbage collection service this Saturday, February 1.... There is no change in garbage collection for those residents who receive Friday collection.

"There will be no METRA Bus Service on Thursday. Regular bus service will resume on Friday.

"The 311 Citizen Services Center will remain open to handle all non emergency calls..... The SafeHouse warming facility has temporarily moved to Rose Hill Methodist Church (2101 Hamilton Road) and will remain open until Thursday evening. Red Cross is providing 30 cots, blankets and pillows through Wednesday night."

Thursday will be another snow day for non-essential employees of the Columbus Consolidated Government, Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said this afternoon.

“It was a close call. We considered having everybody come in at noon, but (police) Chief (Ricky) Boren said many secondary roads are still completely iced over,” Tomlinson said.

On the advice of Boren and Public Works Director Pat Biegler, among others, Tomlinson said she decided to err on the side of caution.

The Muscogee County Jail announced Thursday morning that all inmate visiting hours have been cancelled. The jail plans to resume visiting hours Friday.
