Harris County schools will open later than normal Friday, and Troup County will remain closed.

Interim superintendent Jeff Branham emailed the Ledger-Enquirer this announcement at 4:50 p.m. Thursday:

"Due to the remaining ice accumulations still present on many roads in Harris County, we have decided to delay the beginning time for all public schools in Harris County until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, January 31st.

"This delay will make the ice that is still present on roadways more visible to bus and student drivers on their way to school in the morning. If you have a student that will be driving to school please remind them to exercise caution.

"All buses will run their normal morning routes tomorrow with a two-hour delay from their normal pick up time.

"All employees of the Harris County School District should report to their respective location 2 hours later than their normal starting time.

"All schools will end at their normal dismissal time.

"Buses will run their afternoon routes at their normal time, meaning that students will be dropped off at their stops, at the usual time."

Troup County official Deborah Myers announced in an email to the Ledger-Enquirer at 5:17 p.m. Thursday, "Due to existing road conditions in some areas of the county, Troup County Schools will close on Friday, January 31, 2014 for all students, faculty, and staff. All after school activities are cancelled. Students and district personnel should return to school on Monday, February 3, 2014."
