A 20-year-old Auburn University student who was found dead Thursday inside an apartment on Hemlock Drive has been identified as Matthew Tucker Cole.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Cole of Avondale Estates, Ga., near metro Atlanta was a sophomore geology major at the university. The student was known to have no medical problems before he was found by his roommates.

“We are not suspecting foul play or anything like that,” the coroner said Friday. “We are just trying to find out what happened to him.”

His body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for a postmortem examination.

Auburn, Ala., police were called around 2:45 p.m. CST to check on an unresponsive man when they discovered the student dead. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death remains under investigation by police, the coroner’s office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
