Mar del Plata, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Berlocq and Fabio Fognini were Friday's opening singles winners, as host Argentina and Italy are all-square at 1-1 in a best-of-five opening-round Davis Cup battle.

Berlocq got the Argentines on the board with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Andreas Seppi. But the lead was short-lived, as Fognini foiled the hosts' Juan Monaco 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in the nightcap on the red clay at Patinodromo Municipal.

Saturday's pivotal doubles match will pit an Argentine duo of Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos against an Italian pairing of Simone Bolelli and Filippo Volandri.

The Argentines are 1-0 all-time versus Italy, with the victory coming in Rome back in 1983.

Four-time runner-up Argentina has never captured the Davis Cup, while the Italians' lone title came in 1976.
