RiverKings 5, Cottonmouths 4: Snakes fall in shootout

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Columbus Cottonmouths fell to the Mississippi RiverKings 5-4 Saturday at Landers Center. The teams ended regulation knotted at 4-4, and the tie remained after an overtime period.

In the end it was the RiverKings that picked up a win by prevailing 3-1 in the shootout.

Mississippi scored the first two goals of the night in the first period, but Levi Lind cut that lead in half with a goal on a power play at the 10:31 mark.

The RiverKings notched another goal in the early goings of the second period, but the Cottonmouths tied the game at 3-3 on goals by Jordan Draper and Matt Gingera.

Another goal by Gingera in the third period gave the Cottonmouths their first lead of the game, but Mississippi soon tied the game at 4-4 with a goal on a power play.

The Snakes will travel to face the Peoria Rivermen in a two-game weekend series starting Friday at 7:15 p.m.
