Georgia lures recruit away from Grantham and Louisville

ATHENS - Todd Grantham may have bolted Georgia for Louisville, but so far none of his former defensive recruits have followed him. In fact, one player he briefly had committed to Louisville has flipped to ... Georgia.

Shaquille Jones, a defensive back from Merritt Island, Fla., has reneged on his Louisville commitment and instead plans to sign with Georgia on Wednesday. Jones confirmed the news via his Twitter account on Monday afternoon.

Jones, rated a two-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite, was lightly recruited until very recently, and for awhile was committed to South Alabama. When Grantham arrived at Louisville, he recruited Jones, who committed on Jan. 22.

But new Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt and new assistant coach Kevin Sherrer also showed interest in Jones. He visited Athens over the weekend, and is now headed to Georgia.

Although Jones has not been highly-rated, he has size (6-foot-2, 175 pounds), and analysts say he can be a late bloomer.

"I like his length and his ball skills," said Chad Simmons, a recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "He covers a wide area with his frame at corner and he also has good speed in the open field."

Jones is the 19th commitment for Georgia's class, and the fifth defensive back. Georgia is still pursuing more defensive backs, and again it bears noting that commitments are not official until signing day - as Jones shows.
