Man faces 10 years to life for soliciting teen sex

John Przenkop reported sex with teen girls when their moms wanted money

It's among the more twisted sex cases area investigators have encountered lately — one in which a man in his mid-40s was paying two underage girls for sex and videotaping the encounters, before the girls' mothers found out and tried to extort money from the man, who reported the mothers to police, who arrested everyone.

The juvenile girls were charged with prostitution. Their mothers were charged with extortion. Those cases have been resolved.

That leaves the man, John Przenkop, 47, who initially faced four charges, two counts of producing child pornography and two of transporting minors across state lines for sex. In a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, Przenkop pleaded guilty Monday to one count of transporting a minor from one state to another for sex.

U.S. District Court Judge Clay Land scheduled Przenkop's sentencing for 9:30 a.m. April 29.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Solis said Przenkop faces from 10 years to life in prison. If released, he will have to register as a sex offender.

Solis said the two girls were ages 14 and 15. Przenkop, who claimed he thought they were of legal age to consent to sex, arranged to pay them to let him perform oral sex on them in February 2010, authorities said.

On one occasion, he picked the girls up in Phenix City and brought them to Columbus, dropping them off at a shopping mall while he went to work at Fort Benning, where he was a plumber. After work, he met them at the mall and drove them to his Rice Street home for sex.

During another encounter, he took them from Phenix City to a Japanese restaurant in Columbus, and then took them to his house for sex, Solis said.

Investigators said they believe Przenkop had multiple encounters with the girls that February. Solis said the suspect four times had sex with one girl and twice with the other, and he paid them $500 to $600.

Przenkop used a video camera concealed in his bedroom closet to record his having sex with the girls and kept copies of those recordings, authorities said. Investigators found the equipment while serving a search warrant at Przenkop's home on March 10, 2010.

Przenkop has surrendered any claim to the gear and to the recordings, which will be destroyed, Solis said.

His illegal activities took an odd twist when the girls' mothers called and threatened to have him arrested if he didn't pay them money. That prompted Przenkop to go to the police himself to report what had happened. Investigators then set up a recorded telephone call with Przenkop and the girls' mothers, who were arrested after repeating their threats to turn him in if he didn't pay.

The two Phenix City mothers pleaded guilty in Muscogee County Superior Court to trying to extort money from Przenkop. Each was sentenced to serve five years' probation and perform 200 hours of community service.

The girls pleaded guilty to prostitution in Muscogee County Juvenile Court. The Ledger-Enquirer has not named the mothers in order to protect the juvenile girls' identities.
