Cilic eases into Zagreb QFs

Zagreb, Croatia (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning champion and three-time titlist Marin Cilic posted a straight-set second-round victory Wednesday at the Zagreb Indoors tennis tournament.

The fifth-seeded Croatian crowd favorite handled Serbian Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals at Dom Sportova.

Cilic beat Austrian Jurgen Melzer in last year's final and also captured this event back-to-back in 2009 and 2010.

A opening-round upset came when Israeli veteran Dudi Sela took out sixth- seeded Czech slugger Lukas Rosol 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), while eighth-seeded Dutchman Igor Sijsling moved on by overcoming Slovenian Blaz Kavcic 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4.

Also in the first round, Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev outlasted Romanian Victor Hanescu 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 7-5 (7-5), British lucky loser Daniel Evans drubbed Czech Jan Hajek 6-3, 6-1, and Russian qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov doused Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). Stakhovsky titled here back in 2008.

After receiving opening-round byes, all of this week's top-four seeds -- Tommy Haas, 2012 champion Mikhail Youzhny, Philipp Kohlschreiber and 2011 titlist Ivan Dodig -- will take to the courts on Thursday. The top-seeded one- time world No. 2 Haas will take on fellow German Benjamin Becker.
