When police stopped to talk to a group of loitering men near a Terminal Court apartment complex, John C. Brown allegedly took off running — and reportedly tried to throw drugs in his possession into a creek in the process.

The 31-year-old faced two charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of dangerous drugs, abandoning a controlled substance and obstructing law enforcement during the Wednesday morning court hearing.

An officer told the court he was patrolling near the 3400 block of Terminal Court at about 2:40 p.m., when he noticed the group of men loitering. When he stopped to talk to the men, Brown allegedly started running.

The officer chased Brown towards the apartment complex. At one point in the chase, Brown allegedly threw a white parcel over a fence. Another officer saw the package fall into the creek and was able to obtain it.

Inside, police found a gram of marijuana in two separate bags. The drug allegedly being parsed into separate containers led to the possession with intent charges.

Officers also found an assortment of pills, the types and amounts of which were not available.

Judge Michael Cielinski set Brown's bond at $16,250.
