Three Shaw football players signed Wednesday to continue their careers. Tayshune Davis is going to Union College in Kentucky. Both JaCorey Butler and Keith Green will play at Georgia Prep Sports Academy in Atlanta.
Shaw coach Kyle Adkins said Davis, Butler and Green all worked diligently on the field and in the classroom and that is how they earned the opportunity to continue playing.
Davis played safety for Shaw. He had 39 tackles and an interception.
Signing today means the hard work paid off, Davis said.
He said he is ready to go to Union college and take somebodys job.
Green and Butler hope to play well enough to move on to a bigger school after two seasons in Atlanta.
Green played offensive tackle this past season, It was his first season at that position, switching from defense. Adkins said Green graded at 89 percent for the season, very high for someone new in the role.
I thought I was pretty good, Green said. I want to get better.
Butler, a linebacker, had 80 tackles and two fumble recoveries.
I have tried to lead by example, I want to continue doing that, Butler said.
Pitching three no-hitters easily explains why softball player Regina Falcon of Shaw High School drew the interest of Darton State College in Albany, Ga.
The senior signed with Darton in a ceremony in the Shaw auditorium Wednesday.
Shaw softball coach Laurie McInroy said that Falcon is someone who set a great example for the younger players both on and off the field. McInroy called Falcon a gem.
She represents Shaw in an outstanding way, McInroy said.
I am looking forward to playing ball in college. I want to make a difference there, Falcon said.
