DARRELL ROADEN/Special to the Ledger-EnquirerColumbus' Andrew Loewen deflects the shot by Bloomington's Kyle Watson early in the first period of play

Congratulations to Cottonmouths goalie Andrew Loewen, the SPHL's player of the month for January!

Andrew put up impressive numbers last month in leading the Cottonmouths to a 7-2-1 January record, second best in the league for the month.

Andrew's goals-against average for January was 2.26 and his save percentage .932. In January, Andrew posted two shutouts, a 4-0 win over Bloomington and a 1-0 victory over Fayetteville. Since Dec. 1, Loewen has compiled an 11-3 record.

These numbers approach those of a year ago when Loewen shattered nine-year-old SPHL marks with a GAA of 1.74 and save percentage of .945.

Congrats, once again, to Andrew for this well-deserved honor.

A couple of reminders, Snakes fans. For those of you who are glued to the web for road games, make sure tomorrow night's contest in Knoxville is on your calendar. Afterward the guys head to Peoria for the first time. The Snakes and Rivermen tangle on Friday and Saturday nights.
