Spencer High had seven football players sign scholarships at a signing ceremony on national signing day Wednesday, finishing a year that can only be described as a success.

Three players, Tahjay Brown, Darrius Lightfoot and Juanyae Wilson, signed with Bethel College. Douglas Turner signed with Albany State. Quarterback Tarvaraska Davis signed with Global Tech (N.Y.), and Richard Jones and Damarkus Robins signed with Lincoln University.

Each athlete played a major role in helping the Greenwave to five wins for the first time since 2007 and only the second time since 1993. They came up one win short of a playoff berth, but had a number of players shine statistically.

Quarterback Davis led the way offensively, passing for 2,636 yards, 22 touchdowns and five interceptions. He was helped by Robins, who notched 1,731 yards and 13 touchdowns rushing and 472 yards and eight touchdowns receiving.

Both had impressive junior seasons as well, passing for over 2,500 yards and rushing for over 1,600, respectively.

Both were also named first-team All-Bi-City in 2013.
