The fourth suspect in the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Troy Saunders was taken into custody Thursday evening, according to Muscogee County Jail officials.
Christopher Womack, 19, reportedly turned himself in to police at the Public Safety Building at about 6:15 p.m. He has been charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, murder, obstruction of law enforcement, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession or manufacture of a controlled substance, according to the Muscogee County Jail website.
Womack joins Neisha Jones, 17, Mayson Gibson, 20, and Trevon Brown, 19, who were previously arrested and charged with Saunders' death.
Saunders was killed on Jan. 24 when the four suspects allegedly attempted to rob him and a Phenix City, Ala. man. The two allegedly went to the Warm Springs Road Super 8 Motel shortly after midnight to buy marijuana from the group.
During the alleged attempted robbery, Saunders attempted to flee from the group. Shots were fired as he drove away. He was later found near the Gentian Boulevard Burger King across from the Peachtree Mall. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Phenix City man was uninjured.
Jones and Gibson were arrested not long after the shooting took place. Brown voluntarily turned himself in to police on Jan. 28.
Womack will face a preliminary hearing in Recorder's Court at 2 p.m.
