Aliyah Davis, 16, Kalin Tate, 16, and Ishani Rewatkar, 16, are three local Girl Scouts who traveled to Italy this summer to learn more about global environmental issues. Here, they are standing outside of the Girls Scout house located on 17th Street in Lakebottom Park.

It’s all there in the exclamation: the Columbus-based Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia have announced, “Girl Scout Cookies are coming!”

Today and Saturday are National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, when scouts and volunteers will distribute thousands of cases of cookies to troops, who in turn will deliver them as those who placed preorders.

Troops will also man booths for additional sales.

If you haven’t placed an order and would like some cookies, go to; these cookies will be available at booth sales starting on Feb. 14.

The Girl Scouts sell six flavors of cookies — Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints and Savannah Smiles — each with their particular following.

Proceeds from the sales support myriad projects, each decided on by the troops themselves.

“For some troops, the goal involves travel or a special activity; for others, it’s a community service project,” the GSHG said in a release.

All proceeds from the cookie sales benefit Georgia scouts, according to the release. A portion of the proceeds go toward the troop’s chosen program, project or activity; a portion of it goes to the council level “to support leadership development experiences for girls” as well as training, staffing and maintenance.
