Columbus State softball goes 2-1 in Cougar Classic

The Columbus State softball team went 2-1 on the opening day of the Cougar Classic.

The Lady Cougars lost to King University 2-0 but bounced back with wins over Belmont Abbey, 6-2, and Pfeiffer, 3-0.

CSU and King went scoreless until the seventh inning when losing pitcher Taylor Turner gave up a two-run home run.

Against Belmont Abbey, the Lady Cougars took a 3-2 lead by the bottom of the sixth when Morgan Staffins hit a three-RBI double to right center.

Kristen Carr pitched a complete-game shutout against Pfeiffer. Carr, Lindsey DeFee and Kodu Ricketson had RBIs.

CSU (5-2) hosts two more games Saturday: Belmont Abbey at noon and Wingate at 5 p.m.
