More than two months after a woman’s purse was snatched on Fulton Avenue, Columbus police arrested a suspect on Friday.

Joseph Paul Yarwaye, 28, of Columbus was taken into custody at a Mellon Street address at 2 p.m. and charged with one count of robbery, a felony. He is held in the Muscogee County Jail for a 9 a.m. Monday hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

Police said a Columbus woman was in her yard in the 800 block of Fulton Avenue on Nov. 17 when her purse was snatched. The victim has positively identified Yarwaye as a suspect in the robbery.

Yarwaye gave police a Marlboro Avenue address but told authorities that he is from Africa.
