Columbus State baseball rallies to win Game 2 and earn split with Lynn

Columbus State and Lynn University split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Ragsdale Field.

Lynn scored four runs in the final four innings of Game 1 for a 6-2 win. CSU rallied in Game 2, which was scheduled for seven innings, with single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth for a 3-2 victory.

Jordan Villhauer (1-0) earned the win in the nightcap for the Cougars (3-3). He shut out Lynn on no hits over the final 2 2-3 innings. He relived starter Caden Ferguson, who gave up two runs on six hits in 5 1-3.

Trailing 2-0, CSU got a run in the sixth on Dustin Averett's two-out single, scoring Brenda Collins. CSU struck with two outs again in the seventh. Carson Bowers singled in Matt Nettles to tie the score.

Averett won the game in the eighth with a sacrifice fly, which scored Collins.

Collins went 3-for-4, and Bowesr went 2-for-3.

In the opener, Lynn (4-2) pounded out 14 hits off four CSU pitchers. Sean Muller (0-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up three runs on sixth hits in just 1 1-3 innings.

Averett and Jackson Oliver had two hits apiece for the CSU.

The two teams will play Game 3 of the series Sunday at noon at Ragsdale Field.
