High school roundup: Local wrestlers qualify for state tournaments

Thirty-five wrestlers from the Bi-City qualified for next week's state wrestling tournaments in Georgia and Alabama.

In Georgia, wrestlers from this area competed in West sectionals in five classifications.

The top eight finishers in Class AAAAA and AAAA advanced, while the top four advanced in Class AAA, AA and A. in Alabama, wrestlers from Smiths Station, Central and Russell County competed in a South Super Regional in Montgomery.

Hardaway's Chris Massenburger (285 pounds) won the West sectional title for Class AAAAA and will go into the state tournament as a top seed. He pinned Brandon Ballard of Paulding County in 4:29.

Carver's Deandre Jackson (120) won a sectional title in Class AAA. He beat Sonoraville's Kyle Chastain in 1:30.

Spencer's Tuyen Bowles (132) won a sectional title in Class AA. He beat Reed Dobbs of Lovett 10-7.

In AHSAA Class 6A, Smiths Station's Joshua Jamieson (126) won the South Super Sectional title.

He beat Jaitlin Pitts of Auburn 3-2. in 5A, Russell County's Joshua Oakes (152) won the sectional by beating Moody's Tyler Glass in 1:39.

In Class AAAAA, Northside's Noah Forehand (160) finished second. Harris County's Heath Suich (120) finished fifth.

Hardaway's Xavier Woods (170) finished third, while Emilio Evans-Pagan (160) finished eighth.

In Class AAAA, Columbus Tristan Catterton (152) finished fourth and Katrell Smith (160) came in seventh.

In Class AAA, Carver's Brooks Alfred (220) finished second.

In Class AA, Spencer's Laython Warren (120), Yakariel Judah (152) and Chris Baker (285) all came in second, while Joshua Sampson (170) finished third and Kameron Blackshear (160) finished fourth.

Jordan's Raymond Browder (285) came in third. Chattahoochee County's Jaquan Zeno (152) finished fourth.

In AHSAA Class 5A, Russell County's Jacob Brooks (106) finished third.

In AHSAA Class 6A, Smiths Station's Logan Beyer (120) finished third, Coleman Rose (182) finished third, Maxwell Kauffman (106) finished fourth, Marcus Ruffin (132) finished fourth, Jacobb Goodwin (113) finished seventh, Jelani Gooden (152) finished eighth, Austin Phillips (195) finished eighth.

Central's Ethan Baber (182) finished second, Jarrett Marshall, who lost to Jamieson in the semifinals at 126, finished third, Matt Gittens (195) finished sixth, Dakota Pittman (132) finished seventh, Evan Baber (145) finished seventh, Jeruel Hunter (220) finished seventh, Jonboy Storey (138) finished eighth, Josh Parker (160) finished eighth.

SEALE, Ala. -- Teyah Johnson scored 26 points to lead Russell County to a win over Eufaula for the AHSAA Class 5A Area 4 championship.
