According to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris, at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Lee County Sheriff's deputies, Alabama State Troopers, members of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department and East Alabama Medical Center EMS responded to the call of a pedestrian being hit on U.S. Highway 280 near Lee Road 943 in Salem, Ala.

Jones, who listed a Lee Road 183 address, was pronounced dead a the scene. Harris said Jones suffered multiple blunt force impact injuries and and multiple blunt force internal injuries.

Greer was transported to the EAMC emergency room and treated for what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

Two juvenile passengers in Greer's car were not believed to be injured.

Harris said that it appears Jones was either walking in the roadway or attempting to cross the roadway and stepped into the path of the Nissan.
