A 59-year-old Columbus man told police he used a guitar to defend himself against a man with a knife.

According to the police report, the man was walking northbound on Veterans Parkway Saturday when near 13th Street a Hispanic male suddenly appeared and started fighting him. It was about 2:45 p.m.

The victim said the attacker pulled out a knife and tried to stab him. First, the victim held up a guitar in defense but it was knocked to the ground. He told police that he then grabbed the knife and pulled the blade off the handle.

He said the attacker walked away.

The victim took himself to Midtown Medical Center where he was treated for a cut on his right hand.
