CSU rifle finishes in fourth at OVC championship

MURRAY, Ky. -- No. 19 Columbus State shot a team score of 2296 in air rifle Sunday at the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) championship. The Cougars shot a combined 2261 in smallbore on Saturday, giving them an aggregate score of 4557, good enough for fourth place.

Marissa Furney led the team in both the air rifle (580) and smallbore (career-best 572) disciplines to finish with a 1152. The score put her tied for eighth individually.

Furney was named to the All-OVC Smallbore second team after the competition.

Marko Maksimovic had a 578 in air rifle and 565 smallbore. He finished in 13th in the individual ranks.

Jay Cross had a 574 in air rifle and 569 in smallbore (1143), ans Meghan Robertson had a 564 in air rifle and 555 in smallbore (1119).

Furney and Maksimovic also received All-Newcomer awards for both smallbore and air rifle.

Columbus State will compete again Sunday against Memphis in Jacksonville, Ala., at 9 a.m.
