CSU men's golf tied for 14th after first day

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Columbus State men's golf team began the 2014 season Monday by playing the first two rounds of the Matlock Collegiate Classic at the Lone Palm Golf Club.

CSU finished the first day in 14th place out of 15 teams with a score of 607, 31-over par.

Robert Mize had the low score for CSU in both rounds, shooting a 72 (par) and 71 (one-under). Mize is currently tied for seventh individually.

Other scores for Columbus State were Jack Stumpfig's 76 and 77, Bryan Lichimo's 79 and 77 and Cates Culpepper's 75 and 80. Stumpfig is tied for 56th, Lichimo is tied for 63rd and Culpepper is tied for 61st.

CSU will return to the course Tuesday for the third and final round of the classic.
