Columbus State men's golf plays better in final round, finishes 12th in Matlock Collegiate

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Columbus State men's golf team bounced back with a much better day Tuesday than it had on Monday.

The Cougars shot a 7-over-par 295 to finish at 902 and in 12th place in the Matlock Collegiate Classic at the Lone Palm Golf Club.

Lynn won the tournament at 852, followed by Barry (858), Armstrong Atlantic (863), Nova Southeastern (863) and Florida Tech (877).

Robert Mize led CSU by shooting a 71 Tuesday. He finished the tournament tied for fifth place at 2-under 214. In his four tournaments this season, Mize has two wins, a fifth and an eighth.

Jack Stumpfig, who making his 20-13-14 season debut, also shot a 71 Tuesday. He finished tied for 38th at 8-over.

Bryan Luchimo had a 75 to finish tied for 58th at 15 over. Cates Culpepper had a 78 to finish in 63rd at 17 over. Yannick Gumowski's 79 didn't count toward CSU's team score. He came in 75th at 29 over.

CSU will play again on March 10-11 in the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
