Columbus State 69, Georgia College 65: Cougars edge Georgia College thanks to comeback

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- The Columbus State Cougars made a big comeback in the second half to edge Georgia College 69-65 Saturday.

Georgia College led by 12 points at 38-26 at halftime, but CSU outscored its opponent 43-27 in the final 20 minutes of play.

At the 8:21 mark of the first half the score was still close at 20-18, but Georgia College ended the half on a 18-8 run for the 12-point halftime lead.

The score was tied at 55-55 with 6:41 left to play, and that's when the Cougars put some distance between themselves and Georgia College on the scoreboard.

Kenney Funderburk led CSU with 20 points.

Both Shane Heyward and DeAngelo Kirkland tallied 17 points, and Heyward also had 10 rebounds. R.J. Sessions (Northside) totaled seven points for CSU and Manning had three.

Columbus State (12-9, 6-8 Peach Belt Conference) will travel to play GRU Augusta today at 4 p.m.
